My wife is almost ready to start taking on clients – looking for advice from experienced freelance bookkeepers.

Empowering Your Freelance Journey: Seeking Guidance for a New Bookkeeping Venture

As my wife embarks on her journey as an independent bookkeeper, we’re excited about the possibilities that lie ahead. After 15-20 years of dedicated service in various Accounting roles—including supervisor for payroll operations at a large cable company, office manager for a real estate developer, and bookkeeper across several diverse industries—she is ready to take the leap into freelancing.

With extensive experience in QuickBooks and the completion of all available certifications, she is meticulously finalizing her website and marketing materials. Additionally, we have crafted an engagement letter and updated her resume, positioning her for success as she seeks to attract new clients.

Her target clientele will consist of small to mid-sized businesses and startups, with a focus on being a cost-effective solution for their Accounting needs. Importantly, she will not be offering tax services, as she is neither a CPA nor an EA. Instead, she excels at cleaning up disorganized financial records, generating profit and loss statements, balancing sheets, and providing actionable insights on cost reduction—all while prioritizing automation to enhance efficiency.

Our initial marketing strategy involves reaching out to local CPA firms to establish connections and potentially garner referrals. This brings us to an important point: what’s the best way to initiate contact with these firms? Should she opt for emails, phone calls, or even in-person visits? Additionally, we welcome any tips for making a lasting first impression.

We’re also open to broader suggestions on securing clients and any general advice that veteran freelance bookkeepers might offer. If you have insights or experiences to share, we would greatly appreciate your guidance.

Thank you for your support as we navigate this exciting new chapter!
