My wife is almost ready to start taking on clients – looking for advice from experienced freelance bookkeepers.

Seeking Guidance for a New Freelance Bookkeeping Venture

As my wife embarks on her exciting journey into the world of freelancing, we are reaching out to the community for insights and advice. With nearly two decades of experience in Accounting and Bookkeeping, she’s ready to transition from working for others to establishing her own practice.

Her professional background is impressive, having held positions such as Staff Accountant and Accounting Supervisor, where she managed payroll for over 800 employees at a cable company. She has also been an Office Manager and Bookkeeper for various industries, including real estate development, construction, automotive services, and painting companies. This diverse experience has equipped her with a strong foundation in the financial sector.

My wife is well-versed in QuickBooks and is currently completing all available certifications through the platform, while her professional website is on the cusp of completion. Additionally, she has finalized her engagement letter and updated her resume, putting her in a strong position for client acquisition.

While she will not be offering tax services and does not hold CPA or EA status, her target demographic includes smaller, mid-sized, and newer businesses. She aims to provide cost-effective Bookkeeping solutions tailored to their needs. My wife excels in cleaning up disorganized books, creating profit and loss statements, preparing balance sheets, and identifying cost-cutting opportunities—often with a focus on automation to streamline processes.

To kick off her outreach, we are considering connecting with local CPA firms as a primary strategy. We would love to gather input on the best methods to approach these firms. Should we initiate contact via email, phone calls, or in-person visits? Additionally, any tips for making a positive first impression would be greatly appreciated.

We plan to bill on an hourly basis and are also open to any other suggestions for attracting clients or enhancing her freelance bookkeeping practice.

Thank you for your insights and support as we navigate this new chapter!
