My wife is almost ready to start taking on clients – looking for advice from experienced freelance bookkeepers.

Navigating the Freelance Bookkeeping Landscape: Seeking Guidance for a New Venture

As my wife embarks on an exciting journey to establish her freelance Bookkeeping business, we could use your insights! With nearly two decades of experience in Accounting and Bookkeeping under her belt, she is confident and ready to take on new clients.

Her professional background is impressive; she has held various positions, including serving as a staff accountant and supervisor where she managed payroll for over 800 employees at a cable company. Additionally, she has been the office manager and bookkeeper for a real estate developer, a construction firm, a painting company, and an auto repair shop. Her extensive experience equips her with a diverse skill set that she plans to leverage in her new venture.

Currently, my wife is completing her QuickBooks certifications and is putting the finishing touches on her website. She has prepared her engagement letter and updated her resume, positioning herself as a reliable choice for small to mid-sized businesses that may not have the budget for full-time in-house Accounting. Notably, she intends to focus on helping these businesses streamline their financial processes without offering tax services, as she is neither a CPA nor an EA.

Her strengths lie in clearing disorganized financial records, generating profit and loss statements and balance sheets, as well as providing cost-saving recommendations—all tasks that she excels at. Furthermore, she emphasizes the importance of automation, aimed at making processes more efficient for her clients.

Our initial strategy includes reaching out to local CPA firms to explore potential collaborations or referrals. I’m curious to hear your thoughts on the best way to make that first contact. Should we reach out via email, make a phone call, or simply drop by in person?

Additionally, I would appreciate any other tips on how to make a strong first impression, as well as general advice on acquiring clients in this new venture. We’re also looking at establishing an hourly billing model.

Thank you for your valuable input as we navigate this new chapter!
