Launching a Freelance Bookkeeping Business: Seeking Insights from Experienced Professionals
After years of dedicating herself to various Accounting and Bookkeeping roles, my wife is excited to embark on her entrepreneurial journey. With nearly two decades of experience under her belt, she is now ready to offer her skills to clients as a freelance bookkeeper.
Her background spans numerous sectors, including handling payroll for over 800 employees at a cable company, managing office operations for a real estate developer, and working with construction, painting, and automotive businesses. This diverse expertise has equipped her with valuable insights into the financial needs of various industries.
She has extensive knowledge of QuickBooks and is in the process of completing all relevant certifications. Additionally, she is finalizing her website, and her engagement letter and updated resume are ready. With marketing efforts about to kick off, she aims to reach out to small to mid-sized businesses and newer operators, providing them with a cost-effective Bookkeeping solution. While she won’t be offering tax services and isn’t a CPA or EA, she excels in cleaning up disorganized financial records, preparing profit and loss statements, and generating balance sheets—all while identifying potential cost-cutting opportunities. A strong emphasis on automation will also be a key feature of her service.
As a starting point, she plans to collaborate with local CPA firms to establish connections and build a client base. However, we would greatly appreciate any feedback on the best ways to approach these firms. Should she utilize email, make phone calls, or consider walking in for personal introductions? Moreover, we welcome any additional tips for making a strong first impression within this competitive field.
We are also looking to establish an hourly billing model for her services and are open to any other recommendations regarding client acquisition strategies.
Thank you for your insights and assistance as we take this exciting step forward!
