My wife is almost ready to start taking on clients – looking for advice from experienced freelance bookkeepers.

Launching a Freelance Bookkeeping Business: Seeking Guidance from Pros

As my wife embarks on an exciting new chapter in her professional journey, she is preparing to transition from a corporate environment to the world of freelance Bookkeeping. After dedicating nearly two decades to the Accounting field, she is eager to leverage her extensive experience and insights to help businesses manage their financials effectively.

With a rich background that spans roles as a staff accountant and a supervisor managing payroll for over 800 employees at a cable company, along with stints as an office manager and bookkeeper for various industries—including real estate, construction, and automotive—she has developed robust skills that make her a valuable asset to small and mid-sized businesses.

Currently, she is fine-tuning her knowledge of QuickBooks and is diligently completing the available certifications. Additionally, her new website is nearing completion, and she has crafted an engagement letter and updated her resume, paving the way for her to start marketing her services.

It’s important to note that she will not be providing tax services, nor does she hold a CPA or EA designation. Instead, she aims to serve smaller operations who are looking for a cost-effective Bookkeeping solution. Her expertise includes cleaning up disorganized financial records, preparing profit and loss statements, creating balance sheets, and identifying cost-saving opportunities—all while prioritizing automation strategies to streamline processes.

Our initial plan is to reach out to local CPA firms for potential collaboration. I would greatly appreciate insights from experienced freelancers on the best ways to connect with these firms. Should we opt for phone calls, emails, or even walk-in visits? Additionally, any advice on making a strong first impression would be invaluable.

We are also open to suggestions on attracting clients and any general advice that could help her successfully navigate this new venture.

Thank you for your assistance as we embark on this promising endeavor!
