My wife is almost ready to start taking on clients – looking for advice from experienced freelance bookkeepers.

Launching a Freelance Bookkeeping Business: Seeking Advice from Professionals

As my wife embarks on an exciting new journey as a freelance bookkeeper, we are eager to gather insights from seasoned professionals in the field. With nearly two decades of experience in Accounting and Bookkeeping, she is ready to move away from traditional employment and establish her own practice.

Throughout her career, she has held several key roles, including staff accountant and Accounting supervisor, where she managed payroll for over 800 employees at a major cable company. In addition to her work in the corporate environment, she has served as an office manager and bookkeeper for various businesses, such as real estate developers, construction firms, painting companies, and auto mechanics. Her diverse background provides her with a strong foundation in handling various financial challenges.

Currently, she is enhancing her skills with QuickBooks, completing all available certifications, and finalizing her website. She has also crafted an engagement letter and updated her resume, positioning herself for success as she prepares to reach out to potential clients.

It’s important to note that she will not be offering tax services and is not a CPA or EA. Instead, her focus will be on providing affordable Bookkeeping solutions tailored for small to mid-sized businesses and newer operators. Her expertise includes cleaning up disorganized financial records, producing profit and loss statements, balancing sheets, and identifying cost-saving opportunities with remarkable ease. Additionally, she is committed to implementing automation in her practices to optimize efficiency.

Our initial strategy involves collaborating with local CPA firms, and we would appreciate your advice on the best approach for this outreach. Should we opt for email communication, phone calls, or even in-person visits? Furthermore, any tips on how to make a strong and lasting first impression would be invaluable.

We plan to charge clients on an hourly basis and welcome any other suggestions you may have regarding client acquisition or general advice on starting her bookkeeping venture.

Thank you for your support as we embark on this new chapter!
