Launching a Freelance Bookkeeping Business: Seeking Guidance from Experienced Professionals
As my wife prepares to take the exciting leap into freelance Bookkeeping, we are eager to gather insights and advice from those who have navigated this journey successfully. After dedicating 15 to 20 years in various Accounting roles, she is ready to chart her own course, leaving behind traditional employment to embrace entrepreneurship.
Her extensive background includes working as a staff accountant and supervisor of Accounting, where she managed payroll for over 800 employees at a cable company. Additionally, she has served as an office manager and bookkeeper for a real estate developer, a construction and painting company, and an auto repair shop. This diverse experience has equipped her with a robust skill set, particularly in utilizing QuickBooks, as she is currently completing all relevant certifications to enhance her expertise.
With her website nearing completion and an engagement letter finalized, she is focused on marketing her services to attract potential clients. It’s important to note that she will not be offering tax services and does not hold a CPA or EA designation. Instead, her target audience will be small to mid-sized businesses and startups looking for an affordable Bookkeeping solution.
Her strengths lie in her ability to streamline messy financial records, produce comprehensive profit and loss statements, balance sheets, and identify cost-cutting opportunities—all while prioritizing automation to enhance efficiency.
Our initial strategy involves reaching out to local CPA firms, and I would appreciate any advice on the best approach to make a positive and impactful first impression. Should we initiate contact via email, phone calls, or in-person visits? Furthermore, any other tips on attracting clients or improving our overall approach would be greatly valued.
Thank you for your insights as we embark on this new venture!
