My wife is almost ready to start taking on clients – looking for advice from experienced freelance bookkeepers.

From Employee to Entrepreneur: My Wife’s Journey into Freelance Bookkeeping

As my wife prepares to embark on her new journey as a freelance bookkeeper, we find ourselves filled with excitement and anticipation. After dedicating nearly two decades to the Accounting and Bookkeeping profession, she is ready to break free from traditional employment and serve clients directly. Her diverse experience spans various industries, including cable, real estate development, construction, and automotive, providing her with a well-rounded skill set.

With her extensive background as a staff accountant and office manager, she has successfully handled payroll for over 800 employees and streamlined financial processes across multiple sectors. Currently, she is enhancing her qualifications by completing certifications through QuickBooks, and her website is in its final stages of development. Having finalized her engagement letter and updated her resume, she is on the cusp of launching her services to potential clients.

It’s essential to note that while my wife is not a CPA or an Enrolled Agent and will not be providing tax services, she is focused on supporting small to mid-sized businesses and startups. Her goal is to deliver economical, efficient solutions—helping clients clean up their financial records, prepare profit and loss statements, maintain balance sheets, and identify areas for cost savings. Beyond that, she is keen on integrating automation into her processes to optimize productivity.

Reaching Out to Local CPA Firms: Seeking Guidance

Our initial strategy involves connecting with local CPA firms to establish collaborative relationships. This leads us to an important question: what is the most effective way to approach these firms? Should we consider sending a well-crafted email, making a phone call, or simply walking in? We would greatly appreciate any insights from those with experience in making a strong first impression.

Open to Suggestions on Client Acquisition

Additionally, we are keen to hear any other recommendations on how to attract clients effectively and any general advice that can help smooth this transition. As we prepare to bill on an hourly basis, any tips you can provide on this aspect would also be invaluable.

Thank you for your support as we navigate this exciting new chapter!
