Embarking on a New Venture: Seeking Guidance for a Freelance Bookkeeping Business
After years of dedicated experience in the Accounting and Bookkeeping field, my wife is taking an exciting step forward by launching her own freelance Bookkeeping practice. With nearly two decades of expertise covering various roles—ranging from a staff accountant overseeing payroll for more than 800 employees at a cable company, to office manager for a real estate developer, to bookkeeping for a construction and painting business, as well as an auto mechanic—she has honed a robust skill set that prepares her for this new chapter.
Her proficiency in QuickBooks is complemented by her ongoing pursuit of all relevant certifications, ensuring she remains at the forefront of industry standards. As we near the completion of her professional website and finalize essential documents like the engagement letter and her resume, the excitement for marketing her services to potential clients is palpable.
While she will not offer tax services and does not hold CPA or EA credentials, her targeted clientele comprises small to mid-sized businesses and emerging operators, seeking a cost-effective bookkeeping solution. She excels at streamlining disorganized financial records, preparing profit and loss statements, balancing sheets, and identifying areas for cost reduction—often with a level of ease that feels intuitive. Her commitment to automation is also a key component of her approach, reflecting a modern understanding of the bookkeeping landscape.
Our initial strategy for client acquisition is to build relationships with local CPA firms. We’re seeking advice on the best methods to introduce her services: would a direct email be most effective, or should she consider a phone call? Perhaps a more personal approach, such as a walk-in visit, would leave a stronger impression? Any insights on creating a memorable first contact would be greatly appreciated.
Additionally, we are interested in exploring other methods for acquiring clients or any general advice that seasoned professionals might offer.
Thank you for your support as we embark on this promising journey!
