Embarking on a Freelance Bookkeeping Journey: Seeking Advice
As we prepare to take a significant leap into the world of freelance Bookkeeping, my wife is excited to transition from working for others to establishing her own practice. With nearly two decades of experience in the Accounting field, she brings a wealth of knowledge to the table. Her background ranges from serving as a staff accountant and supervisor, managing payroll for over 800 employees in the cable industry, to acting as an office manager/bookkeeper for various businesses, including real estate development, construction, and automotive services.
Currently, she is finalizing her QuickBooks certifications and is just weeks away from launching her professional website. With a polished engagement letter and an updated resume in hand, she is eager to begin marketing her services.
It’s important to note that she will not be providing tax services and does not hold CPA or EA designations. Instead, she is focusing on offering personalized Bookkeeping solutions for small to mid-sized businesses and start-ups, helping them streamline their finances. Her expertise includes tidying up disorganized books, preparing profit and loss statements, balancing sheets, and providing cost-cutting insights—all of which she can do with remarkable ease. Emphasizing automation will also be a key component of her approach.
To kick off her outreach efforts, my wife plans to connect with local CPA firms. I’m reaching out to gather insights from those experienced in the field: what is the best method to initiate contact? Should she opt for emails, phone calls, or in-person visits? Additionally, we would appreciate any tips on making a strong first impression.
We’re considering billing on an hourly basis and are also open to any other strategies for acquiring clients or general recommendations as she embarks on this exciting new chapter.
Thank you for your insights and guidance!
