Embarking on a Freelance Bookkeeping Journey: Seeking Insights from Experienced Professionals
My wife is on the verge of a new and exciting chapter in her career—she’s ready to take the leap into freelance Bookkeeping. With nearly two decades of experience in various Accounting roles, she has amassed a wealth of knowledge that positions her well for this endeavor. Her background includes responsibilities as a staff accountant and supervisor at a major cable company, office manager/bookkeeper for a real estate development firm, and roles in construction, painting, and auto repair industries.
Having honed her skills extensively in QuickBooks, she is currently finalizing the last of her certifications with the platform. With her website nearing completion, an engagement letter in hand, and a freshly updated resume, she is prepared to begin the process of attracting new clients.
It’s important to note that she will not be venturing into tax services, as she is neither a CPA nor an EA. Instead, her focus will be on small to mid-sized businesses as well as startups, providing them with a cost-effective Bookkeeping solution. She excels at cleaning up chaotic records, generating profit and loss statements, balancing sheets, and identifying cost-saving opportunities—all with a high priority on automation.
Our initial strategy is to reach out to local CPA firms to foster potential collaborations. However, we would greatly appreciate guidance on the best methods for making that first approach. Should she initiate contact via email, a phone call, or perhaps an in-person visit? We’re eager to gather insights on how to leave a strong first impression.
Additionally, we welcome any other suggestions for acquiring clients or general tips that could facilitate the growth of her freelance bookkeeping practice.
Thank you for your support as we embark on this exciting journey!
