My wife is almost ready to start taking on clients – looking for advice from experienced freelance bookkeepers.

Launching a Freelance Bookkeeping Business: Seeking Insights from Industry Experts

Embarking on a new career path can be both exciting and daunting, especially when transitioning from traditional employment to freelancing. My wife is in the final stages of preparing to launch her freelance Bookkeeping business, and we are eager to gather insights from those who have successfully navigated this journey.

With nearly two decades of experience in the Accounting and Bookkeeping field, my wife has honed her skills in diverse roles. Her background includes working as a staff accountant and supervisor responsible for managing payroll for over 800 employees at a cable company, as well as serving as an office manager and bookkeeper for various sectors, including real estate development, construction, auto repair, and more. Her extensive experience makes her well-equipped to tackle a wide range of bookkeeping challenges.

Currently, she is finalizing her website and completing all available certifications from QuickBooks, ensuring she is fully prepared to offer her services. With her engagement letter and updated resume in hand, she’s on the brink of attracting her first clients.

It’s important to note that she will not be providing tax services, as she is not a CPA or EA, but she aims to assist smaller, mid-sized, and newer businesses looking for cost-effective bookkeeping solutions. Her proficiency in organizing messy financial records, generating profit and loss statements, and balancing sheets is complemented by her focus on automation, which is set to become a key offering in her service repertoire.

Our initial marketing strategy involves reaching out to local CPA firms for potential referrals or collaboration opportunities. However, we are contemplating the best way to initiate contact. Would it be more effective to approach them via email, phone calls, or even in-person visits? Additionally, any advice on how to create a positive first impression would be highly valuable.

We are considering hourly billing for her services and are also open to any other recommendations on securing clients or general business advice.

We appreciate any insights you can provide as we embark on this exciting venture. Thank you for your support!
