My wife is almost ready to start taking on clients – looking for advice from experienced freelance bookkeepers.

Launching a Freelance Bookkeeping Venture: Seeking Guidance from Industry Experts

Embarking on a new professional journey can be both exhilarating and daunting. My wife is making a significant transition from being an employee to running her own freelance Bookkeeping business, and we are seeking insights from seasoned freelancers in the field.

With nearly two decades of extensive experience in Accounting and Bookkeeping, she has honed her skills across diverse roles. Her impressive background includes serving as a staff accountant and supervisor at a major cable company, managing payroll for over 800 employees, and taking on various bookkeeping roles in sectors such as real estate development, construction, and automotive services. This wealth of experience has equipped her with a comprehensive understanding of the financial landscape.

She is well-versed in QuickBooks and is currently completing all available certifications to further bolster her expertise. Additionally, her website is nearing completion, and she has already developed a professional engagement letter and updated her résumé. The next step is to start marketing her services to potential clients.

It’s important to note that she will not be providing tax services and is not a CPA or EA; instead, she aims to target small to mid-sized businesses, particularly those just starting out. Her goal is to become a cost-effective resource for these operations by offering services like cleaning up disorganized financial records, running profit and loss statements, preparing balance sheets, and providing cost-cutting strategies—all with a focus on automation.

To kick off this new venture, our initial outreach will be directed at local CPA firms. We are contemplating the best way to approach these firms—should we opt for email, phone calls, or in-person visits? Any strategies for making a positive first impression would be greatly appreciated.

We are also looking at an hourly billing model and would welcome any other suggestions on how to acquire clients or general advice for a successful launch.

Thank you for your insights and support as we navigate this exciting new chapter!
