My wife is almost ready to start taking on clients – looking for advice from experienced freelance bookkeepers.

Navigating the Freelance Bookkeeping Landscape: Seeking Insights from Seasoned Professionals

As my wife embarks on an exciting new journey to establish her own freelance Bookkeeping business, we find ourselves in search of valuable insights from those experienced in the field. With nearly two decades of expertise in Accounting and Bookkeeping, she is ready to make the leap from employee to entrepreneur.

Throughout her career, my wife has honed her skills in various roles—ranging from a staff accountant managing payroll for over 800 employees at a prominent cable company to an office manager and bookkeeper for diverse industries such as real estate development, construction, and auto mechanics. This breadth of experience has equipped her with a comprehensive understanding of financial management.

Currently, she is well-versed in QuickBooks and is diligently completing her certifications to bolster her qualifications. As her website nears completion and her engagement letter has been finalized, she eagerly anticipates the launch of her marketing efforts to attract clients.

It’s important to note that she will not be offering tax services and does not hold a CPA or EA designation. Instead, she aims to cater to smaller, mid-sized, and newly established businesses seeking an economical solution for their Accounting needs. From cleaning up disorganized books to producing profit and loss statements, balance sheets, and identifying cost-cutting opportunities, these tasks come naturally to her. Additionally, she’s prioritizing automation as a key component of her services.

Our initial strategy involves reaching out to local CPA firms, and I would love to hear recommendations on the best approach for making that first connection. Should we consider an email, phone call, or perhaps an in-person visit? Any advice on how to create a strong first impression would also be greatly appreciated.

We are planning to operate on an hourly billing model and are open to exploring further suggestions for attracting clients and general best practices in this new venture.

Thank you for your guidance!
