Embarking on a New Freelance Journey: Seeking Insights from Experienced Bookkeepers
Venturing into the world of freelance Bookkeeping can be an exciting yet daunting endeavor, especially for those transitioning from traditional employment. My wife is on the verge of launching her own Bookkeeping business, and we’re eager to gather insights from seasoned professionals in the industry.
With 15 to 20 years of rich experience in Accounting and Bookkeeping, she’s ready to take the plunge. Her background encompasses roles such as supervising payroll for over 800 employees at a cable company and serving as office manager for various industries, including real estate development, construction, and automotive. Clearly, her expertise positions her well for success in this new chapter.
My wife is also highly proficient in QuickBooks and is currently completing various certifications to further bolster her credentials. Her website is nearing completion, alongside a polished engagement letter and an updated resume. All the pieces are falling into place, and she’s poised to start marketing her services to potential clients.
It’s important to mention that she will not be offering tax services, as she is neither a CPA nor an EA. Instead, her focus will be on providing cost-effective bookkeeping solutions to smaller and mid-sized businesses, including startups. She excels at tidying up disorganized financial records, generating profit and loss statements, crafting balance sheets, and identifying cost-saving opportunities. Moreover, she places a strong emphasis on automation to streamline processes.
As part of her initial strategy, she plans to connect with local CPA firms. This raises an important question: What is the best way to reach out to them? Should she opt for sending an email, making a phone call, or perhaps making an in-person visit? We are keen to hear any recommendations on how she can make a lasting first impression.
Additionally, we welcome any tips regarding acquiring clients or general guidance that could be beneficial to her as she embarks on this new venture. We are particularly interested in establishing an hourly billing structure.
Thank you in advance for your advice and support as she navigates this exciting journey into freelancing!
