My wife is almost ready to start taking on clients – looking for advice from experienced freelance bookkeepers.

Venturing into Freelance Bookkeeping: Seeking Insights for Success

After years of dedicated service in the Accounting and Bookkeeping field, my wife is ready to take a significant step in her career by starting her own freelance Bookkeeping business. With an impressive background of 15 to 20 years, she has gained extensive experience in a variety of roles. These include serving as a staff accountant and supervisor in charge of payroll for over 800 employees at a cable company, as well as working as an office manager/bookkeeper for a real estate developer, construction companies, and auto mechanics. Her diverse experience has equipped her with invaluable skills that she is excited to bring to her own clients.

Currently, she is wrapping up her QuickBooks certifications and putting the final touches on her professional website. With a completed engagement letter and an updated resume, she is poised to begin marketing her services to potential clients. It’s important to note that she will not be offering tax services, as she is not a CPA or EA. Instead, her focus will be on assisting small to mid-sized businesses and startups, providing them with a cost-effective solution for their Accounting needs. She has a knack for cleaning up inconsistent books, generating Profit & Loss statements, balancing sheets, and advising clients on effective cost-cutting strategies. Additionally, she is committed to leveraging automation to streamline Accounting processes.

Our initial strategy involves reaching out to local CPA firms for potential collaborations or referrals. We would like to gather insights from experienced professionals in the freelance bookkeeping realm. What is the most effective way to approach these firms? Should we prioritize email, phone calls, or perhaps even personal visits? Furthermore, any tips on creating a strong first impression would be greatly appreciated.

We intend to adopt an hourly billing approach for our services and are eager to hear any other general advice or suggestions for attracting clients. Your insights would be immensely helpful as we embark on this exciting new journey.

Thank you for your support!
