Embarking on a New Chapter: Seeking Advice for a Freelance Bookkeeping Venture

After years of dedicated service in various Accounting roles, my wife is ready to take an exciting leap into entrepreneurship by starting her freelance Bookkeeping business. With nearly two decades of experience under her belt, she has successfully handled an array of responsibilities—from overseeing payroll for over 800 employees at a major cable company to managing accounts for a real estate developer, construction companies, and automotive shops.

Armed with extensive knowledge of QuickBooks, she is currently completing her certifications with the platform and putting the finishing touches on her professional website. Having finalized her engagement letter and polished her resume, she is on the brink of marketing her services to potential clients.

It’s important to note that she will not be offering tax services and does not hold CPA or EA credentials. Instead, her focus is on assisting small to mid-sized businesses, particularly new operators seeking an affordable solution for their Bookkeeping needs. My wife excels at organizing chaotic financial records, preparing profit and loss statements, managing balance sheets, and identifying cost-saving opportunities—all while embracing automation as a key component of her practice.

Our initial strategy involves reaching out to local CPA firms to explore potential partnerships or referrals. We are unsure about the best approach for this outreach process. Should we kick things off with an email, make a quick phone call, or perhaps pay them a visit in person? Additionally, any tips for making a positive first impression would be greatly appreciated.

We plan to bill clients hourly and are open to exploring any other strategies for attracting new clients or general advice for successfully launching her freelance career.

Thank you for your insights and support as we embark on this new journey!
