My wife is almost ready to start taking on clients – looking for advice from experienced freelance bookkeepers.

Navigating the Freelance World: A New Journey for Aspiring Bookkeepers

Embarking on a freelance journey can be both exhilarating and daunting. My wife is at the cusp of launching her own Bookkeeping venture, and we’re eager to gather insights from seasoned professionals in the industry.

With nearly two decades of experience in Accounting and Bookkeeping, she is equipped with a robust skill set accumulated across diverse roles. Her background includes serving as a staff accountant and supervisor of Accounting in a cable company, managing office operations in a real estate development firm, and overseeing financials in both construction and automotive sectors. This extensive experience has made her well-versed in the nuances of financial management.

Currently, she is honing her expertise in QuickBooks and completing all available certifications. Her website is nearly finished, and crucial documents such as her engagement letter and updated resume are ready for action. As she gears up to attract clients, her focus is on providing cost-effective Bookkeeping solutions tailored specifically for small to mid-sized businesses and start-ups.

While she won’t be offering tax services and is not a CPA or EA, her strengths lie in streamlining messy books, preparing profit and loss statements, creating balanced sheets, and identifying cost-saving opportunities. She is particularly interested in incorporating automation into her processes to boost efficiency.

Our primary strategy involves reaching out to local CPA firms to build potential partnerships and client referrals. However, we’re unsure about the best initial approach to take. Should we opt for an email, a direct phone call, or even an in-person visit? Any insights on making a strong first impression would be immensely valuable.

Additionally, we are open to any other suggestions regarding client acquisition, billing practices (we plan to charge hourly), and general advice for navigating the world of freelancing as she embarks on this new chapter.

Thank you for your support and guidance. Your insights can help make this journey successful!
