Kickstarting a Freelance Bookkeeping Journey: Seeking Insights from Experienced Professionals
As my wife embarks on an exciting new chapter of professional independence, she is gearing up to establish her own freelance Bookkeeping business. With nearly two decades of diverse experience in Accounting and Bookkeeping, she has developed a robust skill set, making her well-prepared for this venture.
Her impressive career includes roles such as a staff accountant and Accounting supervisor, where she managed payroll for over 800 employees at a cable company. Additionally, she has served as an office manager and bookkeeper for various sectors, including real estate development, construction, and automotive repair. This extensive background has equipped her with deep knowledge and practical abilities that she is eager to apply in her own practice.
Currently, she is finalizing her qualifications by completing all available certifications from QuickBooks and putting the finishing touches on her professional website. With an engagement letter and an updated resume already in place, she is moments away from promoting her services to potential clients.
It’s important to note that her practice will not include tax services, and she does not hold CPA or EA designations. Instead, she aims to focus on providing bookkeeping solutions to small to mid-sized businesses, particularly those just starting out. Her services will include cleaning up disorganized financial records, preparing profit and loss statements, balancing sheets, and identifying cost-saving opportunities—all with an emphasis on automated processes to enhance efficiency.
Our initial strategy involves reaching out to local CPA firms to establish connections. We seek advice on the best methods for making that initial approach: should we utilize email, place a phone call, or perhaps make a walk-in visit? Additionally, any tips on creating a strong first impression would be greatly appreciated.
We’re also open to any other suggestions on how to attract clients in this competitive landscape. We’re planning to bill hourly for her services, and insights on effective pricing strategies would be valuable as well.
Thank you in advance for your guidance!
