Taking the Leap: A Journey into Freelance Bookkeeping
As she embarks on a new chapter in her professional journey, my wife is on the verge of launching her own freelance Bookkeeping business. After dedicating 15-20 years to the field, she is eager to apply her extensive knowledge and skills in a more independent setting.
Throughout her career, she has held several significant roles, including staff accountant and Accounting supervisor, where she managed payroll for over 800 employees at a cable company. Her experience also spans office management and Bookkeeping for a real estate developer, a construction firm, a painting company, and an auto repair shop. This diverse background has equipped her with a comprehensive understanding of various industries.
Currently, she is wrapping up her certifications with QuickBooks, enhancing her already solid proficiency with the platform. Her website is nearing completion, and all the necessary documentation, including an engagement letter and an updated resume, is in place. Soon, she will begin marketing her services to potential clients.
It’s important to note that she will not be providing tax services, nor does she hold CPA or EA credentials. Instead, she aims to focus on smaller, mid-sized, and newer businesses, offering them an economical solution for their Bookkeeping needs. Her strengths lie in cleaning up disorganized financial records, preparing profit and loss statements, creating balance sheets, and offering actionable insights for cost reduction. Emphasizing automation will be central to her service offerings.
To kick off this venture, we plan to reach out to local CPA firms. However, we’re uncertain about the best initial approach. Should we send a formal email, make a phone call, or perhaps visit them in person? We would greatly appreciate any advice on creating a strong first impression.
Additionally, we are open to any suggestions for acquiring new clients or general strategies that have worked for others in the freelance bookkeeping realm.
Thank you for your insights and support as we navigate this exciting new beginning!
