My wife is almost ready to start taking on clients – looking for advice from experienced freelance bookkeepers.

Navigating the Freelance Bookkeeping Landscape: Seeking Advice for a New Venture

As my wife prepares to embark on her journey into freelance Bookkeeping, we are eager to gather insights from seasoned professionals in the field. With nearly two decades of rich experience in Accounting and Bookkeeping, she is stepping away from traditional employment to carve her own path.

Her background is diverse, with positions such as staff accountant and Accounting supervisor at a major cable company, as well as serving as an office manager and bookkeeper for various industries, including real estate development, construction, and automotive services. This extensive experience has equipped her with a profound understanding of financial management.

Currently, she is polishing her skills in QuickBooks and completing relevant certifications, while also finalizing her website and updating her professional materials, including her engagement letter and résumé. She is nearing the launch point for her marketing efforts, eager to start attracting clients.

It’s important to note that she will not be providing tax services and is neither a CPA nor an EA. Instead, her focus will be on assisting small to mid-sized businesses and newer ventures, offering them a cost-effective solution for their bookkeeping needs. From organizing disordered financial records to generating profit and loss statements and balance sheets, her expertise allows her to pinpoint cost-saving opportunities with ease. Automation and efficiency will be key priorities in her practice.

As part of her business strategy, we are considering outreach to local CPA firms first. To that end, I would appreciate any advice on the best methods of introduction—should we opt for email, a phone call, or a direct walk-in? Additionally, insights on making a strong first impression would be invaluable.

We are also open to any suggestions for attracting clients and general best practices for running a successful freelance bookkeeping business.

Thank you for your guidance and support as she takes this exciting step!
