Embarking on a New Journey: Seeking Insights on Freelance Bookkeeping
After years of dedicated work in the Accounting and Bookkeeping field, my wife is poised to launch her own freelance Bookkeeping business. With 15-20 years of experience under her belt, she has excelled in various roles, including serving as a staff accountant in charge of payroll for over 800 employees at a cable company, and managing Bookkeeping for a real estate development firm, a construction agency, a painting business, and an auto repair shop. Her diverse experience has equipped her with a deep understanding of the complexities involved in financial management.
Currently, she is finalizing her certification with QuickBooks and putting the finishing touches on her website. With an engagement letter drafted and her resume updated, she is almost prepared to start marketing her services. It’s an exciting time for her, transitioning from working for others to establishing her own identity in the industry.
While she will not provide tax services and does not hold CPA or EA credentials, her focus will be on supporting smaller, mid-sized, and new businesses. She aims to become a cost-effective solution for them by cleaning up messy financial records, producing income statements and balance sheets, and offering strategic insights on where they can reduce expenses. Emphasizing automation as a priority, she’s ready to bring efficiency to her clients’ bookkeeping processes.
Our initial strategy involves connecting with local CPA firms to explore potential collaborations. I am seeking advice from seasoned freelance bookkeepers about the best way to approach these firms. Should we initiate contact through email, a phone call, or perhaps an in-person visit? Additionally, any tips on how to leave a lasting first impression would be greatly appreciated.
We are also considering billing on an hourly basis and are open to any other recommendations for acquiring clients and general strategies that could aid in this new venture.
Thank you for your insights and support as we embark on this journey!
