My wife is almost ready to start taking on clients – looking for advice from experienced freelance bookkeepers.

Launching a Freelance Bookkeeping Business: Seeking Advice from Experienced Professionals

As my wife embarks on her exciting journey to build her freelancing Bookkeeping business, we’re turning to the community for some invaluable insights. After dedicating 15-20 years to the Accounting and Bookkeeping field, she has gained a wealth of experience in various roles. From overseeing payroll for over 800 employees at a cable company to managing finances for real estate developers and construction firms, she possesses a strong foundation in financial management.

Now that she has decided to take control of her career and serve clients directly, she is eager to tap into her expertise. My wife is currently finalizing her website and completing QuickBooks certifications to ensure she’s ready for the market. Her engagement letters are in place, and her resume has been polished for prospective clients. She is set to begin outreach and marketing to attract her ideal clientele.

It’s important to note that while she is highly skilled, she won’t be offering tax services and is not a CPA or EA (Enrolled Agent). Her focus will be on providing affordable solutions to small and mid-sized businesses, particularly those that are newer or still finding their footing. With her ability to streamline messy books, prepare profit and loss statements, and balance sheets, she aims to help her clients not just manage their finances, but also identify cost-cutting opportunities. An emphasis on automation will further enhance her services.

Our initial strategy will involve reaching out to local CPA firms. We recognize these partnerships could be beneficial and would love your input on the best way to make a strong first impression. Should she connect via email, make phone calls, or perhaps visit the firms in person? Additionally, any tips on how to effectively introduce her services would be greatly appreciated.

In terms of billing, she plans to charge hourly, but we are open to exploring different options that could appeal to potential clients.

If you have any advice on client acquisition or recommendations for best practices in the early stages of running a freelance bookkeeping business, we’d be grateful for your contributions. Thank you for your support as we navigate this new venture!
