Transitioning to Freelance Bookkeeping: Seeking Guidance from Industry Experts
As my wife prepares to take the exciting leap into freelancing, she is eager to gather insights from seasoned Bookkeeping professionals. After dedicating 15 to 20 years to the Accounting and Bookkeeping field, her expertise spans a diverse range of roles, including staff accountant and office manager for various industries such as cable services, real estate development, construction, and automotive repair.
Now, she is ready to shift away from traditional employment and establish her own bookkeeping practice. Her deep familiarity with QuickBooks, coupled with the certifications she is currently finishing, positions her well for success. While the website is nearing completion and her resume has been updated, she is just about to launch her marketing efforts to attract clients.
It’s important to note that she will not be providing tax services and does not hold CPA or EA credentials. Instead, she’s focusing on offering affordable solutions to small, mid-sized, and emerging businesses. Her skills in streamlining bookkeeping processes, producing profit and loss statements, balancing sheets, and identifying cost-saving opportunities are second nature to her. Additionally, she is keen to incorporate automation into her workflows to enhance efficiency.
Our initial strategy involves reaching out to local CPA firms. I would appreciate advice on the best way to approach these firms. Should we reach out via email, phone calls, or perhaps even walk in to introduce herself? Any insights on making a positive and memorable first impression would be invaluable.
We’re considering billing on an hourly basis but are also open to other strategies for attracting clients and any general tips for starting a freelance bookkeeping business.
Thank you in advance for your support and suggestions as we embark on this new journey!
