My wife is almost ready to start taking on clients – looking for advice from experienced freelance bookkeepers.

Launching a Freelance Bookkeeping Business: Seeking Insights from Experienced Professionals

Embarking on a new professional journey can be both exciting and daunting. My wife, after 15 to 20 years in the Accounting and Bookkeeping field, has decided to take the leap into freelancing. With extensive experience in various roles—from staff accountant overseeing payroll for over 800 employees at a cable company to office manager for a real estate developer—she’s well-equipped to handle the challenges that lie ahead.

Her expertise in QuickBooks is complemented by her ongoing pursuit of additional certifications, and her website is nearly ready to launch. With her engagement letter finalized and her resume polished, she is preparing to attract clients and grow her own business.

It’s important to note that she will not be providing tax services, as she is not a CPA or EA. Instead, her focus will be on smaller, mid-sized, and newer businesses, offering them an economical and efficient Bookkeeping solution. Her skills include tidying up chaotic financial records, preparing profit and loss statements, managing balance sheets, and providing insights on cost-saving strategies—all with an emphasis on embracing automation.

As a first step in her marketing strategy, she plans to reach out to local CPA firms for potential collaboration. We’re curious about the most effective methods for making initial contact. Should she opt for an email, a phone call, or perhaps an in-person visit? Additionally, we welcome any tips on making a positive and lasting first impression.

We’ll be billing clients on an hourly basis, and we’re also open to any other suggestions for acquiring new clients or general advice on starting this exciting journey.

Thank you for your insights!
