Taking the Leap: How My Wife is Launching Her Freelance Bookkeeping Career
After years of dedicated service in the Accounting and Bookkeeping realm, my wife has made an exciting decision to transition from traditional employment to entrepreneurship. With nearly two decades of comprehensive experience under her belt, she is set to establish her own freelance Bookkeeping business, and we’re eager to gather insights from seasoned professionals in the field.
Over the course of her career, my wife has held various positions that have honed her skills in finance management—serving as a staff accountant and supervisor managing payroll for over 800 employees at a cable company, as well as handling bookkeeping for real estate developments, construction firms, and auto repair shops. This diverse background has equipped her with a robust understanding of financial operations across multiple industries.
Currently, she is wrapping up her certifications with QuickBooks and finalizing her website, which is almost ready to go live. Her engagement letter is prepared, and she has updated her resume, bringing her one step closer to marketing herself to potential clients.
Importantly, she will not be providing tax services and does not hold CPA or EA credentials. Her target demographic consists of small to mid-sized businesses, as well as start-ups looking for a cost-effective bookkeeping solution. With a knack for organizing chaotic financial records, generating profit and loss statements, balancing ledgers, and providing actionable cost-cutting strategies, she is well-equipped to assist her clients effectively. A commitment to automation will also be a key component of her service offerings.
As a starting point for her outreach efforts, we plan to connect with local CPA firms. However, we are seeking guidance on the best approach to initiate these conversations. Should she reach out via email, phone, or perhaps through an in-person visit? Any advice on how to make a strong first impression would be greatly appreciated.
Additionally, we are open to any other creative strategies for attracting clients and insights on building a successful freelance bookkeeping practice.
We welcome your thoughts and suggestions as we embark on this new journey together. Thank you!
