Launching a Freelance Bookkeeping Business: Seeking Guidance from Seasoned Professionals
After dedicating years to building an impressive career in Accounting and Bookkeeping, my wife is ready to take the leap into entrepreneurship. With nearly two decades of experience under her belt, she has been involved in a diverse range of roles—including supervising payroll for over 800 employees at a cable company, managing office operations for a real estate developer, and Bookkeeping for various sectors such as construction and automotive repair.
Her extensive expertise includes a strong proficiency in QuickBooks, and she is currently finalizing all available certifications to bolster her qualifications. Additionally, her website is nearing completion, and she has successfully crafted her engagement letter and updated her resume. All signs point to the fact that she is just about ready to start reaching out to prospective clients.
It’s important to note that while she possesses a wealth of knowledge, she will not be providing tax services and is not a CPA or EA. Her goal is to cater to small to mid-sized businesses and startups, offering them a cost-effective solution for their bookkeeping needs. Her skill set enables her to manage everything from cleaning up disorganized financial records to providing insightful analysis on profit and loss statements and balance sheets. Moreover, she aims to prioritize automation to streamline processes for her clients.
To kick off her client acquisition strategy, her initial focus will be on local CPA firms. I’m seeking advice from seasoned freelance bookkeepers on the best approach to connect with these firms. Should we reach out via email, make phone calls, or consider a walk-in visit? Any insights on how to create a strong first impression would be greatly appreciated.
Additionally, we are open to any suggestions for attracting clients or general advice on navigating the freelance bookkeeping landscape. We plan to bill hourly for her services, and any shared experiences or tips would be invaluable as we embark on this new journey.
