My job hit an all new low this morning with a coworker being questioned as to why their shirt was wrinkled on a video call. Please tell me this is not normal. Do you have a story that’s as insane? ☹️

My Unbelievable Work Experience 💼😲

We used to be completely remote, but then things changed. First, it was 2 days in the office. Then, it became 3 days. That’s when people started leaving.

The dissatisfaction grew when staff and managers were criticized for not dressing professionally enough in the office. Apparently, chinos and polos weren’t cutting it. That’s when respect for our c-suite began to plummet.

As if things couldn’t get any worse, now our work-from-home calls require the camera to be on at all times. If someone’s camera is off, the call is paused until it’s back on. And if the camera can’t be on, the call gets postponed. Ridiculous, right?

But today, things hit a new low when a manager was questioned about his wrinkled polo on a video call. The call was with leadership, and while no staff were present, the conversation about dress code was enough to infuriate everyone.

I’ve started looking for a new job, but it’s been a slow process. Can anyone else relate to this madness? 😞

  1. It sounds like the workplace environment you are in is quite toxic and focused on the wrong things. It is definitely not normal for someone to be questioned about the wrinkles in their shirt during a video call, especially if it’s a remote call where the priority should be on the work being done rather than the appearance of clothing.

In a professional setting, it is important to focus on the quality of work being produced rather than minor details such as the wrinkles in a shirt. Such nitpicking can create a negative and demotivating atmosphere for employees and can lead to a high turnover rate, as you mentioned.

Unfortunately, many workplaces have strayed from the original purpose of remote work, which is meant to provide flexibility and autonomy to employees. It is important for companies to trust their employees to get the work done without micromanaging their appearance or setting unrealistic standards for dress code.

It’s great to hear that you are looking for a new job that aligns more with your values and allows you to work in a healthier environment. Keep searching and don’t settle for a workplace that does not appreciate your hard work and dedication. Remember that there are plenty of companies out there that prioritize work-life balance and value their employees for their skills and contributions, rather than superficial appearance. Stay positive and keep searching for a job that makes you excited to go to work every day. Good luck! ☺️
