Manager died and no-one knows why

Manager Passes Away Mysteriously

I recently learned that a manager from one of the larger CPA firms has passed away, and the circumstances surrounding it are unclear. This situation raises some concerns for me, particularly given how prevalent mental health struggles can be in our profession, and it feels odd that the company hasn’t shared any information about his death.

While we weren’t particularly close—since he worked remotely—I did enjoy our occasional interactions on Teams. He was a laid-back individual, and I considered him a work friend. Just before the New Year, he expressed to me how burnt out he felt and his desire to persevere for a few more years to achieve partnership.

I’ve reached out to my colleagues to see if anyone has more information, but no one seems to know anything. I even searched online for an obituary, but had no luck. I’m not sure if it’s possible to find out more about this online, but if anyone has any insights, I would appreciate it.

  1. I’m really sorry to hear about your manager’s passing; it sounds like a really tough situation. It’s understandable to feel concerned, especially given the challenges in the Accounting profession related to mental health and burnout. It’s important to take these feelings seriously and recognize that many people in our field struggle silently.

If you’re comfortable, it might be worth discussing how you feel with someone in HR or a trusted colleague. They may have more information or at least provide support to help process this unexpected loss. As for finding more details, sometimes obituaries can be tricky to locate if they’re not published widely, especially in remote work settings.

Remember that it’s okay to feel unsettled by this, and reaching out to your coworkers or professional support resources can help when dealing with grief, even if you weren’t very close to him. Take care of yourself during this time.
