Request for Advice on Letters of Recommendation for Internships
Hi everyone,
I’m currently pursuing my bachelor’s degree at a business school in the EU and I’m seeking an internship for this summer, either locally or internationally.
I’m curious if a letter of recommendation is necessary for internship applications, especially since my resume is still quite limited. The main highlights are my experience with the student council and various business competitions.
Additionally, am I starting my internship search too late, or is it still reasonable to look for positions available in August?
I appreciate any advice you can provide!
Thanks!

Hi there!
It’s great that you’re proactive about securing an internship! To answer your questions:
Letter of Recommendation: A letter of recommendation can definitely enhance your application, especially if your resume is still filling out. Even though you’re early in your career, if you have a professor, mentor, or someone from your student council who can vouch for your skills, work ethic, or contributions, it can make a positive impression. Just make sure it’s relevant and adds value to your application.
Timing: While it might feel a bit early to some, starting your search in August is quite reasonable. Many companies begin recruitment for summer internships several months in advance. However, the timing can vary by industry and country, so don’t hesitate to apply to positions as you find them.
Overall, focus on showcasing your student council and competition experiences in your applications, alongside any relevant coursework or skills. Good luck with your search!
Best,
