Keep losing potential jobs because of my termination

Navigating Job Searches After Termination: A Personal Journey

Facing job loss is never easy, especially when it leads to unexpected complications in the job search process. I recently experienced this firsthand after being terminated from my position as a planning consultant on March 1. Since then, I have pursued opportunities at three different financial firms.

The first opportunity seemed promising, as I received a job offer shortly after our interview. However, upon mentioning my termination, the firm decided to rescind the offer. They had access to my U5 form (a document used to report an individual’s employment history in the financial industry) and likely noted my termination before the official update.

During my second interview, I was candid about my situation with the Head of Wealth Management, leading to disappointment on his part, and ultimately, the decision to not move forward with my application. Feeling discouraged, I approached my third interview with a different strategy – this time, I opted to say that I had left my previous employer on my own terms. The interviewer was enthusiastic about my qualifications and even expressed her intent to recommend me strongly to her team.

However, I received an unfortunate email this morning informing me that my U5 had been updated to reflect my discharge due to ‘unsatisfactory performance non-sales related.’ This news felt like a setback, especially since it now cast doubt on my previous explanation during the interview process.

At this juncture, I can’t help but wonder if it might be time to pivot my career entirely. Transitioning into a different field seems daunting, but continuing down the same path only to face further barriers might be equally challenging.

If anyone has navigated a similar situation or has insights on how to rebound after a termination, your advice would be greatly appreciated. I’m hoping to gain some perspective on how to move forward professionally in light of these new challenges.
