Seeking Opportunities: ACCA Finalist

Hi everyone,

I’m feeling a bit overwhelmed as I recently graduated with a B.Com in 2023 and attempted to pursue a master’s degree in the UK, but unfortunately, it didn’t go as planned, and I didn’t receive any qualifications.

On a positive note, I have cleared 10 ACCA papers and have just 3 left to complete. I’m currently back in India and actively looking for job or internship opportunities, particularly with the Big 4 firms. However, I’m finding it challenging to navigate the job market and would really appreciate any advice or suggestions on how to improve my chances.

Thank you in advance for your help!

  1. I’m sorry to hear about your challenging experience with your master’s program, but it’s great that you’ve made progress with your ACCA qualification! Here are some suggestions to help you navigate your job search:

    1. Networking: Leverage LinkedIn to connect with professionals in the industry. Join ACCA-related groups and participate in discussions. Reach out to alumni from your college or your ACCA network who may work at a Big 4 firm.

    2. Resume and Cover Letter: Tailor your resume and cover letter to highlight your ACCA progress and any relevant coursework or experience. Emphasize your determination and how you’ve overcome challenges. Be clear about the value you can bring to potential employers.

    3. Internships: Look for internships or entry-level roles, even if they’re not exclusively with Big 4 firms. Gaining experience in Accounting or finance can make you a more competitive candidate.

    4. Skill Development: Consider obtaining additional certifications or attending workshops related to Accounting or finance (e.g., IFRS training, skills in tax, Audit, automation tools). This can enhance your profile.

    5. Informational Interviews: Reach out to professionals in the Big 4 and ask for informational interviews. This can provide insights into the hiring process and what they look for in candidates.

    6. Job Portals: Regularly check job portals, and create alerts specifically for positions in the Big 4 firms. Sometimes, the roles might not be advertised heavily, and a proactive approach could help.

    7. Recruitment Agencies: Consider registering with recruitment agencies specializing in finance and Accounting roles. They often have access to job openings that aren’t posted publicly.

    8. Stay Positive and Persistent: The job search can take time, and it’s important to stay positive. Even if you face setbacks, remember that persistence is key in this competitive field.

Finally, take care of yourself during this time. Stress can be overwhelming, so make sure to balance your job search with activities that help you relax and recharge. Good luck, and I’m sure you’ll find a great opportunity soon!
