I’ve been job hopping every 1-2 years and need advice.

Navigating Job Hopping: Seeking Guidance for a Career Transition

As I reflect on my career journey, I find myself at a crossroads and eager for some valuable insights. Over the past six years, I have accumulated a wealth of experience in the tax sector, but my resume tells a story that raises some concerns. Frequent job changes—typically every one to two years—have left me questioning my professional credibility.

In truth, my job transitions were strategic moves during the pandemic, allowing me to pursue modest salary increases while maintaining a debt-free lifestyle. However, this pattern has led me to a current role where I’m reaching the two-year mark, enjoying a more stable environment. Despite my contentment, the prospect of relocating out of state has me pondering the impact of my job history on potential employers.

In my current position, my manager is enthusiastic about grooming me for a partner-level role. However, considering the high cost of living associated with such a title, I find myself reluctant to sacrifice family time for a demanding career path.

With this in mind, I’m contemplating whether to actively begin my job search or to simply omit certain positions from my resume in hopes of alleviating concerns about my career stability. I would greatly appreciate any advice from those who have navigated similar experiences. Have you found success after job hopping? What strategies worked for you in overcoming the stigma of a diverse job history?

Your insights and experiences could provide the guidance I need as I make decisions about my future career. Thank you for sharing!
