I’ve been job hopping every 1-2 years and need advice.

Navigating Career Transitions: Seeking Advice for Job Stability in Taxation

As a professional in the tax industry with six years of experience, I find myself at a crossroads. My career path has been marked by frequent job changes—every one to two years—which has left my resume looking a bit disheartening. The driving factor behind my shifts was the opportunity for modest salary increases during the pandemic. Despite having achieved a debt-free status, my earnings often felt barely sufficient.

Currently, I’m approaching the two-year milestone in my present position, which has offered a semblance of stability and comfort. However, I am now contemplating a move out of state, and I’m plagued by doubts about how my work history reflects on my credibility and work ethic. It’s especially disheartening because my current supervisor is keen on helping me advance to a partner role. Yet, the demands of such a position—particularly in a high cost of living area—make me hesitant to sacrifice quality family time.

This brings me to my dilemma: Should I start applying for new positions and hope prospective employers will be sympathetic to my circumstances, or would it be more prudent to exclude certain experiences from my resume?

I’m eager to hear from those who may have faced similar challenges. How did you navigate your career transitions, and what strategies helped you ultimately succeed? Any insights or advice would be greatly appreciated as I strive to make informed decisions about my future.
