Is the market going to shit?

Is the Market Going Down the Drain?

Okay, I know the title may seem a bit dramatic, but my worries are legitimate. This post comes from a place of stress and anxiety, but let’s turn it into a positive discussion to have a meaningful impact.

I’m based in the EU, with experience in Prop trading, VC, and fintech in asset management totaling 2 years. I have a background in engineering, 2 levels of the CFA, and a master’s degree in international finance from a top 10 school. Despite my qualifications, I’m struggling to find job opportunities.

It’s tough out there. Many companies aren’t hiring, especially for entry-level positions. Even internships aren’t leading to full-time roles. The only exceptions seem to be my EU peers who benefit from language skills or connections. It’s not a fair playing field, but that’s life.

Merit and accomplishments don’t seem to matter much in this competitive job market. Despite having a stellar CV and cover letter, I’m not getting any response from companies. I’ve tried every avenue – emails, LinkedIn, job portals – with little success.

If you have any advice, connections, or guidance to offer, I’m all ears. I’m open to any help to navigate this challenging job landscape.

  1. It sounds like you are facing a challenging and frustrating situation, and it’s completely understandable to feel stressed and anxious about it. It’s important to remember that the job market can be tough, especially in competitive sectors like finance.

Given your impressive background and qualifications, it’s clear that you have a lot to offer potential employers. However, it’s also important to consider external factors that may be affecting the job market as a whole, such as economic conditions, industry trends, and changes in hiring practices. It’s possible that these factors are having an impact on the availability of opportunities in your field.

In terms of your job search strategy, it sounds like you are approaching it in a very organized and professional manner, with a well-crafted CV and cover letter. Have you considered reaching out to your network for potential leads or connections? Networking can be a valuable tool for finding job opportunities, especially in a competitive industry like finance.

Additionally, it might be helpful to broaden your search to include alternative roles or industries that could benefit from your skills and experience. Sometimes, being open to exploring new opportunities outside of your original career path can lead to unexpected and fulfilling roles.

Overall, it’s important to stay positive and persistent during your job search. Remember that setbacks and rejections are a normal part of the process, and it’s essential to keep pushing forward and seeking out new opportunities. Seeking guidance from career counselors, mentors, or professional organizations in your field could also provide valuable insights and support.

Keep pushing forward and stay optimistic – the right opportunity is out there for you, and with determination and perseverance, you will find it. Good luck!
