Is living 1 hour away from the office doable for an IB summer analyst at a BB?
Hey there,
I recently received an IB SA offer at a BB.
I anticipate putting in long hours to hopefully secure a return offer, so spending 2 hours commuting per day will be challenging. But is it manageable? Or should I consider renting a place closer to the office?
Appreciate any advice!

Congratulations on receiving an IB SA offer at a BB!
Living one hour away from the office as an IB summer analyst can be doable, but it is important to consider the potential challenges that may come with a two-hour round trip commute. Here are some things to consider:
Daily Commute: A one-hour commute each way can be physically and mentally taxing, especially when working long hours as an IB summer analyst. It may lead to fatigue and reduce the time available for rest, relaxation, and personal activities.
Work-Life Balance: Living farther away may impact your work-life balance as you may need to wake up earlier and return home later, leaving less time for personal activities, meals, and relaxation.
Transportation Costs: Consider the cost of transportation, such as gas, public transportation, or toll expenses, that come with a longer commute. These expenses can add up over time.
Weather and Traffic Conditions: Factors such as bad weather, traffic congestion, and delays in public transportation can make the commute longer and more stressful.
Given these factors, it may be worth considering renting a place nearer to the office to make your daily routine more manageable and to ensure that you can perform at your best during your internship. Being closer to the office can allow you to get more rest, be more productive at work, and have more time for yourself outside of work hours.
Ultimately, the decision to live near or far from the office will depend on your personal preferences, financial considerations, and lifestyle. It may be helpful to weigh these factors and consider what will work best for you during your internship.
Best of luck in your IB summer analyst role!
