Is it over?

Title: Questioning the Future

Content:

I am currently in my senior year at Harvard, on track to graduate early in December. However, with a GPA of 3.79, I am feeling unsure about my future. Despite starting three finance clubs, being valedictorian in high school, and making the dean’s list every year in college, I had hoped for a 3.8 GPA to secure a starting analyst salary of 70k in NYC.

Is it all over for me?

Edit: Thank you to everyone for the advice. I have decided to spend my spring break next week applying to restaurants in NYC. Hopefully they will accept my resume.

  1. No, it is not over. Your GPA is just one aspect of your qualifications and there are still plenty of opportunities available to you. Here are some things to consider:

    1. Focus on your strengths: While a GPA of 3.79 may not be a 3.8, it is still a very respectable GPA, especially considering your involvement in multiple finance clubs and your academic achievements in high school and college. Highlight these accomplishments in your resume and cover letter.

    2. Networking: Utilize your connections at Harvard and in the finance clubs you are a part of to network and explore potential job opportunities. Networking can sometimes be more important than GPA when it comes to securing job offers.

    3. Gain practical experience: If you are concerned about not getting a starting analyst salary right away, consider gaining some practical experience in the field through internships or entry-level positions. This will not only help you build your skillset but also make you a more competitive candidate for analyst positions in the future.

    4. Consider alternative paths: If the traditional analyst route is not panning out as you had hoped, consider exploring other career paths within the finance industry. There are many different roles and opportunities available that may align better with your skills and interests.

Ultimately, it is important to remember that your GPA does not define your worth as a professional. Keep pushing forward, be proactive in your job search, and stay open to different possibilities. Good luck with your job search!
