Unbelievable Job Offer | Still in Shock After a Week
To provide some background, I have about 1.5 years of experience as an associate in public Accounting at a top 10 firm. I currently have another job offer on the table, along with an opportunity that involves a hybrid role in Accounting and real estate.
Recently, I interviewed with a niche firm that offered me an Audit internship with the promise of transitioning into a full-time role afterward. I initially thought this could be a valuable chance for me to gain experience and possibly secure a full-time position. However, if I turn down this internship, I’ll need to go through another interview for the full-time role.
Honestly, I feel quite disrespected by their offer. What is their logic behind expecting associate-level work for intern-level pay, without guaranteeing a full-time position afterward? If I were to accept this internship, how would I even present that on my resume? Transitioning from intern to full-time and then back to intern would create a confusing narrative. I certainly don’t want gaps or inconsistencies on my resume.
Additionally, I scheduled a third interview with them, but they had to reschedule it just a day before it was set to occur. At this point, I’m just trying to wrap my head around why they thought this approach would be appealing to any candidate.

It sounds like you’re navigating a frustrating situation, and it’s completely understandable to feel disrespected by such an offer. Given your experience, an internship at this stage seems inappropriate and undervalued, especially when you already have other opportunities that recognize your skills and potential.
The firm’s approach might indicate that they either undervalue your experience or they are struggling to fill their positions at competitive rates, but that doesn’t justify their lack of respect for your qualifications. If you were to accept the internship, it could create confusion on your resume, suggesting a step back in your career instead of growth.
If you’re entertaining the idea of proceeding with the interview or the offer, it might be worth considering how you would address this in a way that frames your choices positively. Ultimately, though, it sounds like you have more appealing options on the table that better reflect your skills. Trust your instincts, and don’t settle for an offer that doesn’t align with your worth!
