If you were to relocate, where would you choose to go? I find myself at a pivotal point in my career as I approach the final stretch. I’m looking to move to a location with plenty of CPA job opportunities, and unfortunately, Louisiana doesn’t fit that bill. My sister has suggested Austin, as she’d like me to be closer to her, while an ex-girlfriend has encouraged me to consider Birmingham since we’re rekindling our relationship. Are there any other regions I should explore that offer strong prospects for my profession?
With almost 30 years of experience as a CPA, my background includes work in public Accounting, transportation and logistics, manufacturing, government, and ERP implementation in the public sector.

It’s great that you’re considering your options and thinking strategically about your next move! Both Austin and Birmingham are interesting choices, each with their own pros and cons.
Austin has a thriving job market, especially in tech and business services, making it a strong contender for CPA opportunities. It’s also known for its vibrant culture, outdoor activities, and overall quality of life. However, keep in mind that the cost of living has been rising significantly in recent years.
Birmingham may offer a more laid-back lifestyle and potentially lower living costs, but you’ll want to consider the availability of CPA jobs in your field there. It may not be as robust as Austin’s market.
If you’re open to exploring other areas, here are a few suggestions:
Nashville, TN: An emerging market with a growing economy and increasing job opportunities in various sectors, including healthcare and entertainment.
Atlanta, GA: A major financial hub with a variety of industries. It often has a high demand for CPAs.
Charlotte, NC: Known for its banking sector, Charlotte has been growing rapidly and could offer many opportunities in Accounting and finance.
Denver, CO: With a diverse economy and beautiful surroundings, Denver has a strong demand for financial professionals.
Seattle, WA: Home to many large companies and tech firms, Seattle offers ample opportunities in Accounting, though the cost of living can be high.
Chicago, IL: A huge financial center with a diverse range of industries, it has many CPA job opportunities.
Ultimately, consider what matters most to you in a new location—job opportunities, lifestyle, cost of living, and proximity to family. Good luck with your decision!
