I really enjoy my job

I really enjoy my job.

Lately, I’ve seen a lot of negative posts and discussions surrounding them. As a CPA in my early 30s, I’ve transitioned from a Big 4 firm (2 years) to a mid-tier company (2.5 years) and then into a private equity-backed lower mid-market industry, where I’ve been for the last three years. Now, I find myself as the head of finance, one of just five executives and an officer at the company. While hard work has played a significant role in my journey, I’ve also had my share of luck along the way.

While I can’t say I love every single part of my job, I genuinely look forward to going to work each day. My CPA designation and industry knowledge have provided me with the opportunity to make a meaningful impact in a company that employs over 200 people, and I lead a team of more than ten in my area.

A professor once told our class, “You’ll always experience a work-life balance; sometimes it leans heavily toward life, and other times it tilts toward work.”

I’ve learned that improving communication and understanding the operations side of things is crucial for bridging the gap between Accounting and finance. It’s a key element in moving beyond the routine.

(Note: I updated this to clarify my current role in the industry.)

  1. It’s great to hear about your positive experience in your role as head of finance! Your journey through different firms and industries is inspiring, and it’s a testament to both your hard work and the opportunities that come with being proactive in your career.

It’s interesting how you highlight the importance of communication and understanding operations—it really shows that success in finance isn’t just about crunching numbers, but also about being able to connect with other departments and contribute to the overall success of the organization.

Finding the right work-life balance can be challenging, but it sounds like you’ve managed to create a fulfilling career while also acknowledging the realities of the profession. Your perspective is refreshing in a space where negativity can often take the spotlight. Keep inspiring others with your positive attitude and success!
