Title: The Struggle of Returning Company Property: A Cautionary Tale

After parting ways with a Big Four Accounting firm nearly ten months ago, I’ve found myself faced with an unexpected dilemma: the return of company property. Specifically, I have two laptops in my possession—one of which is non-operational.

Upon my departure, I promptly filled out a return survey which clearly indicated the items I still held, including a request for a shipping label and boxes for the laptops. Given that I was primarily working remotely, I wanted to avoid the hassle of a lengthy commute to the office and unnecessary parking expenses just to return these devices.

Initially, I was filled with hope that my request would be processed swiftly. However, weeks went by without any sign of the shipping materials I needed. In a bid to resolve the situation, I reached out to their support team. Unfortunately, my call was redirected to a different office, and despite providing my contact details, I never received a follow-up.

Months later, I find myself in a bit of a predicament. With my home office now cluttered by these laptops, I’m reminded of how simple it should be to return such items. While I acknowledge that my intention is to finally resolve this issue with another call, it leaves me pondering why returning company property is proving to be such a challenge.

This experience serves as a reminder of the complexities that can arise even after leaving a company. If you find yourself in a similar situation, don’t hesitate to persistently advocate for a resolution—it shouldn’t have to be this hard to return what isn’t yours!
