I quit big4 about 10 months ago. I still have 2 laptops from them (one that doesn’t work)

Navigating Post-Employment Equipment Returns: My Experience with Big4

Leaving a major firm like Big4 comes with its own set of challenges, including the often-overlooked task of returning company equipment. It’s been nearly ten months since I parted ways with the firm, yet I’m still in possession of two laptops—one of which no longer functions.

Upon my departure, I diligently filled out a return survey, indicating the items that needed to be sent back. I specifically requested a shipping label and boxes for the two laptops, as my remote work situation made it impractical to travel 40 minutes to the office, especially considering parking expenses.

After waiting patiently for a few weeks, I never received the promised shipping materials. When I followed up with a phone call, my inquiry was directed to a different office due to a lack of availability in my own. The representative took my contact information and assured me that someone would return my call—yet, that follow-up never materialized.

Fast forward a few months, and I now find myself in need of a more organized home office for my current job. The presence of these two laptops is becoming increasingly cumbersome, serving as a daily reminder of my unresolved equipment return.

While I recognize that I should reach out to them again, I can’t help but feel frustrated by the ongoing hassle of returning items that are no longer part of my responsibilities. Shouldn’t this process be more straightforward? For anyone else facing similar situations, navigating the return of company property can prove to be an unexpectedly complicated endeavor.
