I quit big4 about 10 months ago. I still have 2 laptops from them (one that doesn’t work)

Navigating Equipment Returns After Leaving a Job: A Personal Experience

Leaving a large organization like a Big Four firm can be a significant transition, with various tasks to manage post-departure. Ten months ago, I made the decision to move on from my role at one of the Big Four Accounting firms. However, I’m still facing an unexpected hurdle: the return of company equipment.

Upon my exit, I completed a survey detailing the items I was responsible for returning, including two laptops—one of which is unfortunately non-functional. Given that I primarily worked remotely, I requested shipping labels and boxes to facilitate the return process, as I didn’t want to embark on a lengthy 40-minute journey to the office and incur parking expenses just to drop off some equipment.

I waited patiently for the shipping materials to arrive, but days turned into weeks and still, no package came. In my determination to resolve the issue, I reached out via phone, only to find myself rerouted to a different department. The representative took my number and promised a callback, which, unsurprisingly, never materialized.

Now, several months later, these laptops are cluttering my home office space, which I need to optimize for my current job. It’s frustrating to realize that returning equipment has turned into such an arduous process. While I know I should reach out once more, it seems disheartening that a simple return could become this complicated.

This experience highlights a broader issue many face when transitioning away from large organizations: the seemingly simple tasks that can evolve into major challenges. If you find yourself in a similar situation, perseverance is key—but it would certainly be ideal for these companies to streamline their equipment return processes to avoid such inconveniences!
