I FAILED

I Faced a Setback

At 31, I decided it was time to pursue something beyond just a high school diploma—I’m diving into Accounting. I recently took my very first midterm exam in Accounting principles, and to be honest, I didn’t do well. It was a 25-question exam over two hours, and I couldn’t finish all of it. I made the mistake of relying too much on the lecture videos and thought I could skip taking notes.

Now, as we head into vacation, I’m committed to rewatching all the lectures and taking thorough notes. My goal is to rectify my mistakes and be more prepared when we tackle new chapters. I’m doing my best to stay motivated despite this setback because I am determined to become a financial analyst. While it stings to struggle in my major classes—especially after doing well in my other courses—I’m trying not to let this one test define me.

If anyone has tips on how to reinforce the material you’re learning, I’d love to hear them. Just so you know, I’m an online student, which may help with context.

UPDATE: I want to express my heartfelt gratitude to everyone who responded to this post. Your support helped lift me out of my slump. I’ve received valuable tips and life lessons on how to enhance my studies. I understand that failure is part of the journey, but so is success. It’s just one test, and I know it won’t be my last. I chose to return to school for a reason, and I’m ready to trade my uniform for a suit, taking it one lesson at a time. Thank you all—your encouragement means the world to me! 😊

  1. It’s great to hear that you’re feeling more uplifted after receiving support from others! Remember, every setback is an opportunity for growth, and it sounds like you’re approaching this with a positive mindset. Taking notes while watching lectures is a fantastic strategy—it helps reinforce what you’ve learned. Additionally, try forming a study group, even online, to discuss concepts with others, and practice with past exam questions if you can.

Make sure to give yourself regular breaks during study sessions; it can help avoid burnout and keep your mind fresh. Don’t hesitate to reach out to your professors or classmates if you’re struggling with specific topics—they can provide insights that you might not get from lectures alone. Keep your eye on the bigger picture and celebrate your small victories along the way. You’ve got this, and your determination is key to becoming the financial analyst you aspire to be! Good luck with your studies! 😊
