I’m feeling really overwhelmed right now. While processing invoices for a client, I mistakenly entered a fraudulent invoice from a new vendor into the accounts payable run. I had attached a complete communication trail to the invoice, thinking it was from an employee. Thankfully, we didn’t finalize the accounts payable, and the controller was able to sort it out.
I’m really stressed about the possibility of losing my job. 😱

It’s completely understandable to feel stressed in situations like this, but it’s important to remember that mistakes happen to everyone, especially in fast-paced work environments. The key thing is that you caught the error before processing the payment, which shows you’re aware and conscientious about your work.
Consider discussing the situation openly with your supervisor or controller, if you haven’t already. Acknowledging the mistake and showing that you’re taking steps to ensure it doesn’t happen again can demonstrate your commitment to your job.
Use this experience as a learning opportunity to improve your processes for vetting invoices in the future. Take a deep breath, and try not to let fear take over. You’ve already navigated a tricky situation well, and I’m sure you’ll come out of this even stronger. You got this!
