How would you like my chances

How Do You Think My Chances Are?

Hey everyone,

I recently applied for a senior Accounting position that starts at $75K in a relatively low cost of living area. To my surprise, I received a call for a Teams interview just 45 minutes after submitting my application. The interview went really well, and I’m feeling positive vibes from the hiring manager and the company, which seems to prioritize work-life balance. During our conversation, the manager even scheduled an onsite interview for this Wednesday. The job posting mentioned they are urgently hiring, so I’m excited about the swift progress!

The role requires over 5 years of Accounting experience, and I have 8 years under my belt.

Currently, I’m working in finance and making $105K, so this would be a pay cut. However, Accounting is my true passion, and I’ve been logging 55-60 hour weeks lately, especially with our team just finishing playoffs, which means even more work is coming my way.

I’m curious about your thoughts on my chances of landing this job. It would be pretty disheartening if I don’t receive an offer. I haven’t interviewed outside my current company since college, so I’m a bit uncertain about how the process works these days.

Any insights or comments would be greatly appreciated!

  1. It sounds like you’re in a strong position for this opportunity! Here are a few things to consider regarding your chances and the overall process:

    1. Quick Response: The prompt call for an interview suggests that your application stood out and that they are actively looking to fill the position. This is a positive sign.

    2. Experience Match: With 8 years of Accounting experience, you exceed the minimum requirement. This not only demonstrates your qualifications but also gives you an advantage in discussions about your skills and potential contributions.

    3. Cultural Fit: The positive vibe you felt during your interview, especially regarding work-life balance, can often be a significant factor for hiring managers. Being a good cultural fit can sometimes outweigh other considerations.

    4. Passion for the Role: Your desire to return to Accounting because it aligns with your interests is a strong motivator and may resonate well with the hiring manager. Employers appreciate candidates who are genuinely enthusiastic about the work they’re applying for.

    5. Salary Consideration: While a pay cut can be concerning, if the role offers a fulfilling work environment and a better work-life balance, it’s a valid trade-off. Just be prepared to discuss your reasons for the change in compensation during your onsite interview.

    6. Follow-Up: Make sure to follow up after your onsite interview. A thank-you note reiterating your interest in the position and appreciation for the opportunity can leave a positive impression.

Overall, while there’s always some uncertainty with job searches, it sounds like you have strong qualifications and a good rapport with the hiring team. Trust your instincts, be yourself in the interview, and good luck!
