Mastering College Accounting: Effective Study Strategies
As the new semester approaches, I find myself preparing to retake what many refer to as the “weed-out” Accounting course at my university. As a finance major, enrolled in this class is a requirement, despite my lack of interest in pursuing a CPA and my stronger affinity for finance. This particular course serves as a critical stepping stone for many of my peers aiming for acceptance into our business school’s five-year master’s program.
Last semester, I faced significant challenges with this course and ultimately decided to drop it. I realized too late that I would need to achieve a score above 70% on both the third midterm and the final just to pass. With assignments comprising 25% of the overall grade and exams Accounting for 75%, my focus on tough finance courses led to a precarious situation in accounting.
The average GPA for this course stands at a troubling 2.6, which raises concerns about its difficulty level. Given that my foundational knowledge was built through community college classes, I am apprehensive about my preparedness. To bridge this gap, I proactively downloaded all available lecture videos and practice problems from my instructor’s previous courses. Additionally, I plan to undertake a self-study session this summer, mimicking an actual class experience.
However, I’m still anxious about failing this upcoming semester due to my weak grounding in accounting concepts. Therefore, I am reaching out for advice: What effective study strategies have you implemented to succeed in college-level accounting courses? Any tips or resources you could share will be immensely appreciated as I embark on this learning journey.
In summary, I would love to hear your insights and experiences that helped you excel in your accounting studies during your time in college. Thank you for your help!
