How long did you wait between receiving a verbal offer and the written offer?

I received a verbal offer after my final interview with the head of asset management during an online meeting (the previous interviews were in person). The verbal offer came through last week, and I’m really hoping to get the written offer since this would be my first full-time job.

I can’t shake off the nerves and anxiety as I wait for the official offer. I’m currently considering another offer from a different company, but this one is my top choice. I know there’s not much I can do at this stage, but I’m curious about how long others have had to wait for their offers.

I’ve had requests for reference checks, but other than that, I haven’t heard much. I reached out to HR this morning, and she informed me that final discussions about the candidates are still ongoing, which has added to my anxiety since I thought I was in the clear for the offer.

So, how long was the wait for others here?

  1. It’s completely understandable to feel anxious while waiting for the written offer, especially since this position is your top choice! The waiting period can be nerve-wracking, but it’s good that you’ve been proactive by reaching out to HR.

In my experience, the wait between a verbal offer and the written offer can vary significantly—anywhere from a few days to a couple of weeks. Some companies move quickly, while others might take longer due to internal processes or discussions. It sounds like they’re still finalizing things on their end, which is common.

It’s great that you have another offer on the table; that gives you some leverage and options. Just remember that the fact that you’re receiving reference checks is a positive sign that they’re seriously considering you. Hang in there! Hopefully, you’ll receive the written offer soon.
