Seeking Help with Dissertation Topic in Accounting
Hello everyone! I’m a UK Accounting and finance student currently working on my dissertation, and I’m having a bit of a tough time finding a topic that strikes the right balance between being interesting and manageable. With a full-time job, my available time for research is quite limited, so I really need something straightforward that doesn’t involve overly complex analysis.
My initial ideas, like “Correlation between the real estate market and the stock market” and “Impact of AI on financial reporting,” were rejected by my supervisor, probably because they were too broad or ambitious. After some frustration, I turned to ChatGPT for suggestions, and it proposed “Impact of earnings management on stock performance,” which my supervisor approved. However, I’m finding this topic quite challenging and not particularly enjoyable.
I would greatly appreciate any recommendations for easier, more engaging dissertation topics in Accounting or finance that would fit my time constraints and help simplify my workload. Thank you!

Analysis of Budgeting Practices in Small Businesses: Focus on how small businesses create and use budgets. You could conduct interviews with business owners to gather firsthand insights, making this topic both manageable and practical.
The Effect of Corporate Governance on Financial Performance: Investigate how different governance structures impact the financial health of companies, perhaps by looking at a specific sector or region.
Exploring the Use of Financial Ratios in Predicting Company Bankruptcy: This could focus on a particular industry or time frame, analyzing how effective various financial ratios are in forecasting financial distress.
The Impact of Tax Policies on Small Business Growth: Analyze how recent changes in tax law have impacted small businesses’ growth and financial planning strategies.
An Evaluation of Accounting Software Adoption Among SMEs: This can include surveys or interviews with small to medium-sized enterprises to understand their experiences and challenges.
The Relationship Between Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) and Financial Performance: This topic can be narrowed down to a specific sector or region, allowing for a more focused analysis.
Factors Influencing Investment Choices Among Young Investors: This could involve surveys or interviews to explore what drives younger generations in their investment decisions.
Analysis of Inventory Valuation Methods and Their Impact on Financial Statements: You could look into how different methods (like FIFO, LIFO, or weighted average) affect the financial health of companies in a specific industry.
Investigating the Impact of Exchange Rates on International Business Transactions: This can be narrowed down to a few companies that engage in international trade, focusing on how they adjust their strategies based on currency fluctuations.
Choose a topic that not only fits your time frame but also piques your interest so that the research process can be more enjoyable. Good luck with your dissertation!
