Seeking Advice: Choosing Between Undergraduate (5 Exemptions) and Postgraduate (4 Exemptions) for ACCA
Hello everyone, I’m a postgraduate in commerce and I’m facing a tough decision regarding ACCA exemption calculations. I would greatly appreciate your insights!
Here’s where I stand:
- If I go with my undergraduate degree, I’m eligible for 5 paper exemptions: (BT, MA, FA, LW, TX)
- However, if I select my postgraduate degree, I only receive 4 paper exemptions: (BT, MA, FA, LW)
I’m unsure why there’s a difference in exemptions based on my degree level. If anyone has experienced this or has knowledge about ACCA exemptions, I’d love to hear your recommendations. Which path would you suggest and why?
Thank you for your help!

Hey there!
It sounds like you’re in a bit of a tough spot, but it’s great that you’re seeking advice. Here’s how I see it:
Exemptions: While more exemptions from your undergraduate education (5 papers) could initially seem like the better option, it’s important to consider the long-term benefits of your postgraduate degree. If you’re interested in specialized knowledge that comes with postgraduate studies, that could ultimately provide more value to your career.
Career Goals: Think about where you see yourself in the future. If your postgraduate degree aligns more closely with your career aspirations or if it opens doors to advanced opportunities, it might be worth sacrificing that additional exemption.
Plan of Study: Consider whether the content of the postgraduate program is more aligned with your future studies and interests. Sometimes, the quality of learning can outweigh the quantity of exemptions.
Time and Cost: If the postgraduate path is significantly more time-consuming or costly without much added benefit, that’s something to weigh in your decision.
Ultimately, if you feel that the knowledge and skills from the postgraduate program enhance your ability to pass the ACCA papers you must take, it may be worth going for that path. Conversely, if you’re looking to get through ACCA as efficiently as possible, the undergraduate route may be the way to go.
Make sure you also check with ACCA rules, as there might be nuances or specific criteria for exemptions that could help inform your decision. Good luck!
